When I found a picture of a violin beetle on the internet, I was immediately drawn to it as an origami subject because of it's highly unique look.  Even though this was not one of the most complicated things I have designed, I went through three versions to get one I liked - it was a classic case of over-complicating things.  Each time I tried including flaps in the design specifically for the "neck-fins" (for lack of a better term), the result was terrible.  I eventually realized that the solution was far more simple than that - in this version I simply pulled out some of the pleated layers and used swivel folds to give them their triangular shape.  I am very pleased with the result, as well as how thin I was able to make the legs and antennae.
